 Certainly not a first puzzle for young kidsJul 24, 2010
We have loved the Mellissa & Doug puzzles for our 3 yr old granddaughter. Usually the puzzles are large, colorful, and durable.
These 12 piece four puzzles in a box are way too small for little hands, not made of durable wood, and most importantly do not have enough color variation for little ones to pick from the pieces easily.
A nice feature is that all four puzzles fit in a carrying box...and on the back of the pieces they have a particular shape (square) that tells what pieces go to what puzzle.
If your child is advanced in puzzles this could be a OK, but otherwise stick with the large more colorful puzzles.

This was a great hit with my three year old friend. These puzzles are of great quality and design. I ordered several more from the same vendor. Exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend these puzzles, also the US Map one.

My son received a different version of this type of puzzle by Mellisa & Doug, and he loved it. When he developed an obsession with lions and tigers, we felt this would be a perfect puzzle for him. HE LOVES IT.

Granted, they were a little smaller than I thought, but they are a real treat. My 2 year old loves them, dinosaurs are anyway an all-time favorite, and they have been in constant use since we got them. After a week of playing though, one piece of a puzzle cracked (my daughter stepped on it in the excitement), and I glued it with crazy glue, but not sure it's going to actually hold.
Other than that, the colors are beautiful, the details and complexity of the scenes are adequate for a 2 to 5 year old, and I love that you can make other games with these puzzles (sort them based on the shape that's drawn on the back of each piece).
All in all, I highly recommend it.
