This puzzle was advertised as being a "touch and feel" puzzle. Since "touch and feel" books have different textures, I was really excited to purchase this as a birthday present. Boy, was I disappointed. First of all, the saran wrap packaging was ripped and had holes in it. One corner of the puzzle was banged, the wood on the back of the puzzle had gouges in it. Then the puzzle itself was a major disappointment! Touch and feel my butt! There was only ONE type of texture and it was the wheels on the the vehicles, some part of the boat and some part of the airplane. The texture was the same leathery texture on everything. BORING! Had to return since I obviously could not give a gift that was so ratty looking.

Melissa and Doug puzzles are the best for young children. They are sturdy and the pieces are large and easy for a young toddler to handle. The colors are bright and the images appealing to a child. The two year old in my life loves then and we have been using these puzzles since he was 14 months old, as he has gotten older we have bought the more challenging ones.
Some of them have large knobs for small hands to grasp, others are thick pieces that make it easier for a child to put the piece in place, also the car and truck pieces can be used to play with.
