2Keys are not wooden and not in tuneJun 09, 2010
By Gidget Jones
This is a cute toy, but the one I received has one key way out of tune. I got it for my young son because he loves music and I wanted him to be able to make his own, but teaching young ears with an out-of-tune instrument seems defeating. I will be exchanging this in hopes that it's just a problem with this particular one, since the other keys sound good.

Also, this is not a xylophone (with wooden keys), it's a glockenspiel (with metal keys). When the manufacturer says "wooden," they only mean the frame.

1A musical instrument should be MUSICAL, even if just a toy!Mar 24, 2011
By A. B. Henry "TV Watcher"
Bought this item thinking that I was getting a great throwback toy. You know, something we all remember. Well, my Fisher Price xylophone from the '70s was at least IN TUNE. This one sounds pretty crummy all the way around. Too bad, because I really wanted to be able to add this to the set of musical toys my daughter has. Alas, I sent it back.

5great for the priceFeb 27, 2011

I actually got this for my own personal use...I use it as a signal in my classroom when the kids voices are getting too loud. But in the 3 days it floated around my house before I took it to school, my 15 month old had a blast with it:) I will say that the stick-thing (it's name escapes me) that you use to play it is wooden and kinda thin, so I wouldn't buy this for a 2 or 3 year old. But with 4 and up it should make for quite an enjoyable toy:)

3Fine as Introductory InstrumentJan 27, 2012

This glockenspiel is cute and colorful and my son enjoys pounding on it for a few minutes. I think I play with it more than he does. But it's definitely a toy, and not really a musical instrument. For the price, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect, but the high b and c keys have the exact same sound. So you are really only getting 7 keys, not 8. I don't really mind too much, since it's not a wallet-buster or anything. But if you shop around, there is probably a better-quality toy instrument to spend your money on.

2Horribly out of tuneDec 30, 2011

I bought this for my two-year-old to play with. While I was not expecting it to be anything more than a toy instrument, it is so horribly out of tune, that it doesn't sound like anything musical. Educational Planet has been helpful to date, and I am hoping to return for a refund and seek out another toy.
